CTC is being supported by Cardiff and Vale Health Charity through the ‘Make it Better Fund Third Sector Grant Scheme’. Sarah Williams, Art Therapist, is delivering a pilot Art Therapy project with the residents at Ty Seren hostel in Cardiff.
Ty Seren provides supported housing to woman aged 16 to 25, many of whom have complex emotional and mental health problems. The pilot will offer a therapeutic in-house service, consisting of Art Therapy groups and one-to-one’s to referred residents.
It is hoped that Art Therapy will provide a nonthreatening way into mental health treatment for the residents. Art Therapy can be particularly useful for people who struggle to communicate their feelings and emotions . The participants will be encouraged to share their stories and experiences using art materials.
The project will be rigorously evaluated, and if proven to have a positive impact Ty Seren and CTC will consider how to create a sustainable Arts Therapies service.
