Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art media as its main mode of expression and communication. Art Therapy is different to ‘Art’ for recreational activity as its roots are in psychological thinking. It is not a lesson, you do not have to be good at art, or have any experience of making art to work with an Art Therapist.
Art Therapy can help people who struggle to verbalise their feelings and thoughts. Clients can visually express their experiences, emotions and fears. The art making can help clients gain insight into emotions, thoughts and feelings. Build confidence and nurture feelings of self-worth. Art Therapy can be an effective way to deal with both emotional distress and physical pain.
