About Arts Therapies
The arts therapies are treatments which involve using arts-based activities in a therapeutic environment, with the support of a trained professional. Therapy sessions can take place in a one-to-one setting or a group.
You don’t need to have done any arts- based activities before, or have any particular skills or knowledge. Arts Therapists can work with children, young people, adults, and the elderly. Central to the arts therapies is the relationship that is established and developed between client and therapist.
Anyone who refers to themselves an art therapist, dramatherapist or music therapist must be registered with the Health and Cares Professions Council (HCPC). You can check if a therapist is registered using the HCPC’s Check the Register Service
Arts Therapists must also belong to the relevant professional body:
- British Association of Art Therapists
- British Association of Dramatherapists
- British Association for Music Therapy
All CTC therapists are trained to a Postgradute standard and are registered with their relevant professional bodies. They are insured and DBS checked.
